Hjärt-Lungfonden, founded in 1904, is an independent non-profit organization with a mission to collect and distribute money to research in the heart, lung and vascular area and provide information about these diseases and research results. Hjärt-Lungfonden’s vision is to defeat today’s most common diseases, cardiac, vascular and pulmonary disease in the same way as they once defeated tuberculosis as the endemic disease in Sweden. Hjärt-Lungfonden is the single largest donor funding to clinical research in the field. Karolinska Institutet (KI) is one of the world’s leading medical universities. KI’s mission is to help improve people’s health through research and education. In Sweden, Karolinska Institutet accounts for over 40 percent of the medical academic research and has the largest collection of medical educations. Each year, the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet is selecting Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine.
